Nola The Rat goes to heaven

In Life with Animals on July 22, 2008 at 11:03 pm

After less than a month without her constant companion Smiley, Nola The Rat passed away today at the ripe old age of 2. Annie was holding her as she took her last breath. She’ll be buried in the backyard next to her sister Smiley and they can romp around in Rat Heaven where there are all kinds of toys and food and cozy places to sleep and stuff to explore but no cages.

She was a really sweet rat. It’s sad. Annie doesn’t think she wants new rats because they don’t live long enough.

  1. Oh, no, poor Nola! They don’t live long enough. I haven’t had a pet forever-rat, but I foster for the Oregon Humane Society, and just keep rats and other small animals when they’re potentially pregnant, and just take good care of them until they’re ready to be adopted. That might be a good way to keep the animals in Annie’s life without the longer term heartache. Just an idea.
